Mid Isle Cottage
The beautifully situated Keeper’s Cottage was home to generations of the McAvoy family, who were tenants of the Montgomery family. In an area rich in Ulster-Scots tradition, where the language was once spoken widely, few have done more to preserve it than Willie McAvoy, one of the best known Ulster-Scots figures. One of three sons of the last shore keeper on the Montgomery Estate, Willie has produced a series of audio cassettes detailing his memories of family life at Mid Isle in Strangford Lough. They are available from the Ulster-Scots Language Society.
At low tide only. Please be aware of tidal times. Visit www.northdowntourism.com or call 028 9127 0069 for more information.
